Grand Challenges in Global Health is a grant funding scheme funded by the Gates foundation. Grand Challenges in Global Health is a group of grant programs focused on one unifying purpose: To overcome persistent bottlenecks in creating new tools that can radically improve health in the developing world. Grand Challenges Explorations fosters innovation in global health research. The Gates Foundation has committed $100 million to encourage scientists worldwide to expand the pipeline of ideas to fight the greatest health challenges.

The grant program is open to anyone from any discipline, from student to tenured professor, and from any organization – colleges and universities, government laboratories, research institutions, non-profit organizations and for-profit companies.

Grand Challenges in Global Health has two rounds in every 12 month period. Each round of the Grand Challenges Explorations initiative awards grants against a set of specific topics each of which relates to specific global health issues.
